Capacity and priorities.
I know it's been a while since I've written in this blog. Sometimes life gets busy and we need to step back. We only have so much capacity and energy, and at times we need to prioritize where we put it.
I like to take stock by sorting things into three categories:
Things I must do
Things I like to do
Things that would be nice to do
Capacity is such an important topic, and it can shift depending on what we're dealing with at any given time. One way I like to think about capacity is to picture it as a cup or container. Some things fill our cup, and they restore and energize us. Other things drain it. And here's the important part: our cup doesn't always look the same. Some days it's large and full. Other days, it feels small, already half empty before the day has even begun. That's okay. Knowing what fills you up and what drains you is the first step in managing your capacity with intention and self-compassion. That's why it's so important to regularly check in with yourself and to offer yourself compassion when you simply can't do it all, all the time
